woodworking router enclosure

dave here, how are you? i've been doing a little bit of trimmingrounding over some edges on this deck that i am refurbishing at the moment and i wasgetting dust going every where. now you know how paranoid i am about thatkind of stuff so i have come up with a way to catch as much as physically possible youmight be able to do this it's a very, very

woodworking router enclosure, quick project i will take you through it stepby step. stick with me, here we goi've mounted my dewalt trimmer upside down making basically a very small style of routertable and it works great. it's my little trim table and i love it.

i've been getting dust going every where. theproblem for me is not that i am such a clean freak, but it is because the dust has beengoing over onto my docking station on the other side there. dust, sawdust every where! when i push a pieceof timber or board up against the fence at the back it's not sitting properly, it's goingto be held out proud by little bits of rubbish getting in the way, can't have it, going tothrow me out of square all the time. there is a reason for me being a clean freak. it's not just because i like it, it's becauseit's functional. you can see underneath here.

i'll just lift this up. i have the festool hose that is connectedonto the exhaust port on the router's dust shroud. on festool's routers they have a shroud thatcomes around underneath, as you're doing a round over it collects all the dust as welland lets the dust extraction system do its job. catches it as quickly as it can. the thing is if you didn't have that shroudthere the festool routers would lose as much sawdust as any other router on the market. so how am i going to fix this dust problem?

i am going to get a piece of plywood and apiece of scrap timber , glue them together, cut them so they are all nice and neat. drilla couple of holes so i can put some t-bolts through into these tracks that i have , soi can hold in position, i will get my forstner bit , i'm going to drill a hole into the centre, the forstner bit is the same diameter as the hole that i have in the perspex plateand then i'll trim it all on the table saw to get it all neat and tidy, and hopefullyit will work. now the thing is i'm not going to run thisforstner bit all the way through. i will stop it around one quarter inch shy of going through the top . i want something a little bit more rigid thanthis 3 mm ply so i am going to

use quarter inch ply and should get by with that. dust pan and broomlook at all this rubbish! this is the part here, i don't want any dustcaught in there as that will throw things out of square. sound of circular saw. sound of dust extractor in background. i am using titebond 2. it goes off pretty quickly, you have 4 minutes. flip it over. looking pretty good.

1 inch brads are in the nail gun. these safety glasses have magnifying elementsat the bottom of each lens. sound of nail gun. i am going to let that dry. whilst i am waiting for the glue to dry iam going to punch a start hole for the drill press using the forstner bit. might clean this up. these glue brushes don't need to be cleaned. they are silicone and best to let the gluedry and it peels of like a reptile shedding

its skin. i will clean something else while the gluedries. :-) make sure you drill from the bottom of the jig. line up with the mark you made earlier. sound of drill turning. maybe turning too fast? it will sit on top of there. now to measure to check parallel and thentrim off on the table saw sled. mark out where

the knobs are to go, and nearly done. need to drill holes for the t-bolts. want them center. scribing a line with a pencil. measure left side to left side is the sameas center to center. sound of sawing. then sound of drilling. looks great! need to do a test. sound of router.

this has been a great little project, onlytakes a couple of minutes to make. you can always make it deeper and clamp thejig to the table top if you don't have t-tracks. if you feel l deserve a thumbs up pleaseclick the icon bottom right of the screen also, click on my face to subscribe to seemore of the videos. links in the description box below. thanks for watching. see you next time, bye.
