on behalf of expert village, my name is husainabdul alim and i am here to tell you all about wood carving figurines. the rasp is a multitudeof sanding, it cleans it up. this is what i do before i start sanding. rounding offall of these raggedy edges, all these little raggedy edges i get busy on. smoothing offthe edges, giving it some elegant. this is an old piece of sycamore so, the surface hasbeen exposed to the sun, so the rasping part
woodworking files and rasps, is very easy. there is no skin on it. whatdo i mean by skin? i am talking about this stuff, sycamore, sycamore. but it has alreadybeen flaked off because of the weather sitting around, that is why i had to filler in somuch. but underneath the wood is just great, it is nice piece of wood, excellent pieceof wood. that is why i said if i had one wood
to use and one wood only, it would be sycamore.really nice lumps and bumps, it is a nice character. i don't want to discourage anybodyabout the length of time, but time is relative. i will move around on pieces and i will beinspired some days and i will just do sanding. but my most fun is just attacking a piece, brand new, just getting into it for our first time, but time wise it depends on the wood.if it is oak, oak takes a while to clean up. oak can take a couple of days to clean upback and forth, here and there, an hour here, an hour there. just getting the clean lineslike what i am doing now for oak. but with sycamore i can be, like i said this can be,it is going to have some color on it by time it got dark, if i just stay on it for anothercouple of hours. this will take another couple
of hours for me to complete. it will takeanother three, maybe four hours for me to say, well man that is a nice piece, i can'tdo no more to it, it is finished, it is filled in. but from this point on i would say itwould take me another three hours of sanding and cleaning up before i would be able toput some stain on it and hang it up.
